February 15th, 2018 at around 6pm, I am located in the beautiful building of the AT&T Conference Center near downtown Austin, Tx. I am preparing for the Bosch North America Kick Off Sales Award Ceremony and event. This will be a night to remember.
The night started off with me setting up in the hallway, just outside of the conference room, shooting portraits for the attendees. As guests were showing up, shaking hands with friends and colleagues, some ventured over to where I was at to get a quick portrait. At first, I could tell how uneasy some of the guests were to be in front of the camera. After chatting with them for a minute or two and putting their fears to rest, they all walked away with a big smile on their face and really excited to order the final image I just created for them. :)
After an hour or so of being in the hallway, everyone started to head inside of the conference room, I took that as my queue to break down my set up and go inside to be ready for the awards.
Apparently, news travels very fast when photographing an event because the entire Bosch guest list now wanted a group photo by me. Groups of people started lining up to get their photos taken inside the conference room. Making a quick decision, I looked around to figure out what I think would look the best. I decided that I really like having the stage with the 2018 awards banner as the background.
In came group after group, I pretty much photographed everyone in that room! Funny part was, later that night my client gave me an update on how well I was doing and chuckled about the fact that the hotel waiters were a little annoyed that the guests weren't sitting down to place their order because they all wanted their photo taken. Sorry hotel waiters :P
After photographing all of the teams and different groups, the awards finally started. I have photographed a few awards in the past and some of them are pretty dry and straight to the point. Nothing wrong with that, however this ceremony was the opposite of that. The two speakers spoke in a way that kept you entertained throughout the night. There were plenty of laughs, cheers, some standing ovations, hugs and handshakes. One gentlemen received an award for earning the company a lot of money! Bravo sir, bravo!
As the awards were wrapping up and my time for the event was coming to an end, my client said to me,
" You are doing such a wonderful job and the images look fantastic, would you be willing to stay one more hour?" Absolutely! I replied. Everyone was very friendly and loved getting their photo taken. Even after the event, I had guest coming up with their spouse wanting me to take a couple of photos of them and I was happy to do it for them. :)
In closing, I am very thankful and honored that BOSCH chose me out of the hundreds, probably thousands of event photographers in and around the Austin TX area. There are a lot of talented photographers out there and I am just thankful for the opportunity. Thank you Bosch! :)
